Jotaro Kujo (空条 承太郎, Kūjō Jōtarō) is a fictional character and the main protagonist of Part III - Stardust Crusaders of the widely popular JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise created by Hirohiko Araki. He first appears in the manga chapter "Jotaro Kujo (1) (空条承太郎 その①, Kūjō Jōtarō Sono 1)" first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on April 3, 1989. His design and attitude is loosely based on Kenshiro, the main character of Fist of the North Star, as well as Clint Eastwood's silent character in the Dollars Trilogy. Jotaro is introduced as an stoic, gakuran-wearing delinquent who awakens a spiritual manifestation (called a Stand) named Star Platinum, possessing superhuman strength and ultra precision among other supernatural abilities.
He is the third protagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, succeeding the original protagonist of Part 1 - Phantom Blood, Jonathan Joestar, as well as the protagonist of Part 2 - Battle Tendency, Joseph Joestar (who returns in Part III as part of the main cast). After the tragedy that lead to Jonathan's death over a century prior to the beginning of Stardust Crusaders, Dio Brando returns to once again threaten the surviving descendants of the Joestar lineage.
Jotaro has appeared the most out of any character in the original manga, anime, games and novels of the series, as well as much of the promotional material. Outside of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, Jotaro has had playable appearances in Jump's crossover games Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars. He has also been the subject of other parodies, and has appeared in various special events and in Western pop culture.
